Career Development And Critical Thinking

In my professional position, external influences such as regulation changes necessitate critical thinking to sustain productivity. Therefore, critical thinking ensures that dynamic work environments are considered in aligning goals with the company’s mission. Consequently, risks that the organization is exposed to can be managed by the adoption of critical thinking to mitigate against undesirable influences that expose the company to losses. Therefore, critical thinking applies in capitalizing on opportunities and reducing risks associated with moments of uncertainty in professional roles.

Mainly, organizational leaders rely on critical thinking to ensure that all operations within the organization are performed according to the required approach (Nothwehr & Yang, 2007). During my professional position approximately one year ago, a rival firm gained information about my organization’s brand positioning strategies and product pricing initiatives. Therefore, the information gained was used to achieve competitive advantage and my firm lost a few core clients. As opposed to conducting unethical retaliation actions, I applied critical thinking in developing an Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) plan to sustain customer loyalty, a measure that increased productivity.

Etiquette reflects on acceptable behavior within work and social circles. Relationships determine the effectiveness of group dynamics; therefore, teamwork strategies rely on organizational behaviors that influence productivity (Pagana, 2010). Personally, I emphasize a proper handshake during cross-departmental strategies to establish a cooperative culture with coworkers. Evidently, cross-departmental projects involve teamwork strategies which may at times be characterized by an ambiguous hierarchy whereby team members are not sure who they answer to. In such scenarios, honesty is critical to establishing trust to facilitate task execution with minimal conflicts.

Additionally, tolerance is necessary for organizations with a diverse workforce. Tolerance describes a willingness to respect the beliefs and moral convictions of others, even when they contradict personal ideals. A workforce that exhibits tolerance emphasizes the positive aspects that each person’s beliefs contribute to the organization’s goals. Moreover, cultural diversity may influence creativity and innovation, highlighting the need for etiquette in professional and social circles.

The type of communication endorsed by an organization determines the overall productivity. Communication involves the exchange of ideas. Personally, I recognize effective listening as my strength. Usually, conflict within organizations results from a lack of interest in considering opposing arguments, leading to physical or verbal confrontations that are characterized by mistrust. However, I apply active listening by allowing other parties to express their concerns clearly before I convey my ideas. The measure encourages opposing parties to be receptive to my ideas just as I was willing to consider opposing arguments.

Nevertheless, I am aware that my communication approach has several weaknesses, one of which is a low display of objectivity when expressing concerns that relate to sensitive topics such as termination of an employee’s position. Essentially, I struggle to express difficult decisions that may be unfavorable to some of the employees, leading to scenarios of confusion whereby I did not articulate the organization’s position on an issue clearly.

One of the key responsibilities in my profession involves ensuring that tasks are aligned with the organization’s mission and vision. Therefore, goals have to be achieved in time to ensure that productivity is maximized. Time-management is often mentioned as a critical skill in professional roles; however, its value is often unappreciated (Fuhrmann, Hobin & Lindstaedt, 2013). I ensure that all my goals are systematically divided into small tasks, each assigned a time slot. The measure acts as a formative evaluation to ensure that goals are realized on schedule.

Secondly, I am aware of regular distractions that limit my performance. Social media can be a distraction in professional environments; therefore, I installed efficiency plug-ins that limit my social media activities during office hours. Moreover, time management apps provide reliable time assessment controls to monitor a task’s progress. Ultimately, people have to be aware of their strengths and weaknesses to ensure that productivity is sustained in an organization.
