Leadership is the process of applying social intelligence to seek the support of others through influence to achieve a certain goal. On the other hand, management is the application of the principles of administration to coordinate other people to attain organizational goals and objectives. Both leadership and management have various similarities and differences (Torres, 2013). Leadership and management exhibit aspects related to power and supervision. To accomplish their personal roles, managers are also perceived to be leaders and the leaders are also perceived to be managers.

One of the areas in which leadership and management overlap is under goals and objectives. Both leadership and management make application of sophisticated ideologies and philosophies to ensure that they attain their goals and objectives (Torres, 2013). Both leadership and management embrace determination and abject commitment in order to offer guidance on the ways that can assist in achieving prosperity and success. Strategic models are very crucial to both management and leadership so as to monitor the progress and report the level of success that has been attained towards achieving organizational success. Organizational and group psychology is very critical towards achievement of goals. Both leaders and managers have to apply skills related to managing group dynamics so as to make a vision that that united people alongside organizational culture. This is crucial to both in motivating their subjects towards success (Nothcraft & Neale, 2002).

The overlap between leadership and management is very crucial in nursing leadership. The areas of intersection between these two concepts can assist a nurse leader in covering theories, policies and innovations that assist in advancing nursing practice and administration. A combination of the attributes can assist a nursing leader to delegate responsibilities through inspiring them to work towards organizational goals and objectives (Clark, 2009). This can also assist in leading others to exploit full potential of their abilities through strategic motivation.
