Introduction

In the emergency department, leadership is essential to the success of the practice environment and in treating patients under the best possible conditions to promote high quality performance and the delivery of care. Transformational leadership is often utilized in order to expand the vision of the organization and to identify methods that will support innovation and a unique understanding of purpose (Yoder-Wise, 2013). The emergency department requires a high level of innovation and an opportunity to examine the different issues that are relevant within these environments, using a transformative leadership approach to improve outcomes and to recognize the value of patient outcomes in making decisions that will have a positive impact on the department (Yoder-Wise, 2013). This perspective also encourages leaders to recognize where changes are required and to be proactive in making all possible efforts to improve the emergency department and the resources that are required to improve the lives of all patients in this setting (Yoder-Wise, 2013).

Analysis
My personal leadership style is transformative in nature because I believe that the emergency department should not be a static environment where change occurs only infrequently. On the contrary, this environment provides an important opportunity to examine the different ideas and approaches that will improve the emergency department and the level of performance that is achieved. It is important to attempt to transform the emergency department by developing innovative and creative ideas to improve quality of care. This leadership style is different from the hierarchical management style in that it does not have the same level of control over the actions that are taken in managing employees. When leadership is necessary as part of the practice strategy, a transformative and innovative approach is ideal because it provides a frame of reference that supports the goals and objectives of all employees working in the department.

Employees in the emergency department face high levels of stress in an environment that is subject to continuous change, due to the nature of the population that is served and the type of treatments that are required. Therefore, it is important to identify resources and information that will be used effectively to ensure that the leadership role is successful in improving performance to treat patients successfully (Lin et.al, 2011). The use of a transformative leadership style aims to balance the chosen management style, and this supports the ability to achieve progress and success within the workplace environment. The emergency department is in a constant state of influx and turmoil; therefore, the ability to minimize some of these complications is essential to the success of the department and the patient care that is provided, along with the development of other factors that have a significant impact on health outcomes and employee productivity.

Conclusion
A transformative leadership style supports the growth and innovation of the emergency department in order to improve quality of care and to promote efficiency in treating patients. I believe that this style is important in improving the emergency department and in the development of new ideas to enable employees to be more effective in their activities. Transformative leadership must be focused and must recognize the value and benefits associated with change and how they impact the emergency department in order to promote innovation and other opportunities. This process will also encourage leaders to obtain important input and feedback from employees in order to transform the emergency department and expand knowledge to treat patients in a successful manner.
