The sampling approach used by Numi will serve as a means of generating market research information by keeping track of the different demographics that sample the different teas. Another way Numi would be able to generate marketing research data from advertising is create an advertisement that requests people go to complete a survey, and if they complete it, offers them a discount off of a Numi product. In order to work to prevent pushing the product into decline, they would simply be able to keep providing the different styles and flavors of tea, or provide the less popular ones on a cyclical basis.

“Planned obsolescence is a business strategy in which the process of becoming obsolete…is planned and built into it from conception (The Economist, 2009). By incorporating planned obsolescence into a product, there is an assurance that not only will there be a continual market for these types of items, serving as a means of boosting the economy, while serving to cater to the disposability that customers crave in this day and age of disposability.

Three different products that incorporate planned obsolescence are clothing, through the use of fashion trends, nylon stockings, or hose, wherein they are designed to be worn, torn, and replaced, and vehicles, through the use of changing designs, and such features as the stellar Kia Soul’s limited two year battery, which will cease working after a two year period.

There are many complaints regarding planned obsolescence including that it serves as a means of wasting money, using up valuable resources, and overfilling landfills, creating potentially hazardous environmental concerns (Good Housekeeping, 2013).
