Managed care has introduced numerous changes in health care. It has made health care services cost effective, has increased access to care and delivery of quality care. The changes have influenced how the clinical practitioners and health care administrators perceived the aspect of managed care and improved health care services. It has helped to improve the caregiver-patient relationship. In other words, patients have a chance of participating in making decisions that affect their health. Managed care has also enhanced the delivery of less restrictive model of care and the availability of health care services and products that directly respond to consumer demands. Managed care has also influenced change in health care delivery by giving the consumers of medical care more flexibility and choice. The system has ensured that consumers and purchasers are served with a broad and stable network that includes plans to check the quality of every aspect of care (Kongstvedt, 2013).

The managed care program also helped to control the cost of health care services in the United States and other countries implementing it. The system has increased the emphasis on increasing the market share of health care services with a renewed emphasis on the protection of profitability measures. As a result, consumers and purchasers are faced with an escalating health care cost under the changing conditions of health care. The system has also ensured that consumers become more active participants in health care delivery by demanding more flexibility and change and easier access to health care delivery (Rickel, & Wise, 1999). Managed care has helped to reduce the unnecessary costs of health care and has offered economic incentives for patients and physicians because they have the choice of selecting a less costly care program.

The historical development of health care was based on the provision of quality and affordable care. The changes that have led to managed care emanated from the economic realities of the United States that helped to shape the health care system in the earlier years (Rickel, & Wise, 1999). The spiraling health care cost in the United States is evidenced by the measured health care expenditures and per capita expenditures and the relationship with the gross domestic product. The country started with an expensive system of health care that was not affordable to many citizens. This created the need to improve care while, at the same time, reducing the cost of care. The managed health care system has impacted on the historical evolution of health care by ensuring that the delivery of care goes in line with the increasing number of global human population.

In my opinion, the evolution of managed care system significantly impacts the history of health care by reflecting the technological growth and the increasing demand for health care services. People have increasingly become reliant on drugs, and pharmaceutical expenditures have increased. Considering the health care insurance system endorsed by medical providers over the years, the managed care system has come to ensure that patients fully benefit from their insurance packages. The less the cost of care, the more the patients benefit from the health care insurance system (Navarro, 2009).

I personally agree with the significance of the managed health care system. The system is a good way of ensuring that health care is affordable to all people in the society. Considering the modern economic and technological growths, it is important to standardize the cost of care. The system is also important to ensure a significant reduction in health care expenditures. The latter promotes economic growth of the countries. According to my beliefs and practices, people express their unity and love for one another by ensuring that everyone is protected from all forms of danger (Navarro, 2009). Reducing the cost of health care through the managed care system is one of the ways of demonstrating care and respect for human life. The cost-sharing aspect of managed care is also important for everyone because it ensures that the state resources are equitably shared. Both the poor and the affluent have access to quality health care.
