Why Do I Want To Become a Gifted Certified Teacher

609 words | 3 page(s)

I will never forget the first time I worked with a Gifted and Talented student. He was a young boy with impressive critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, not to mention a sharp sense of humors, but after he finished his work more quickly than all of his peers in class, he often grew bored and got in trouble for distracting the other students. Later in my career, I had a Gifted and Talented student who put very little effort into his schoolwork because he wanted to spend more time reading the science and history books he had borrowed from the library.

Another Gifted and Talented student I encountered was a girl who told me she did not want to raise her hand in class, even when she knew the answer, because she did not want her friends to think she was “too smart.” My experiences with these students made me realize how students who are Gifted and Talented require a different kind of support than their peers, and it inspired me to dedicate my career to providing that support. There are several key reasons why I want to be a Gifted Certified teacher.
