My Opinion Regarding CyberPsychology

A new dimension of human experience continues to open up at a faster rate because of advanced online and computer networks. The experience that people get from computers and computer networks can be referred to as “psychological space” sincepeople tend to feel like they are entering a certain space or place after they start using them. Some people tend to describe computers as an extension of their personalities and mind.Based on the articles, the software and hardware tools help in determining the psychological qualities of cyberspace. Moreover, the virtual world is considered different from the personal world. The extent of human interactions has been stretched by digitizing groups, relationships, and people. There are different unique psychological features of cyberspace that help in shaping how people conduct themselves. The features include reduced sensations, texting, changing perceptions, equalized status, and temporal flexibility.People have a tendency to feel different cues that help them know they have entered the cyberspace. The cues comprise of a change in the atmosphere, the level of familiarity, interaction with the environment and sensory stimulations from the atmosphere. It is normal for people to feel that if people receive more sensory stimulation from the environment, it starts to feel more real and its presence can be felt. Even though cyberspace atmospheres lack some dimensions such as smell and touch, they are visual and auditory. Visual images and other movements such as moving pictures are likely to increase the sensations of experiencing an actual space.A fuller level of the presentis felt when people interact with the environment instead of just witnessing it.Finally, the lack of familiarity makes some people feel nervous and out of place. According to the history of Cyberpsychology, computers with wider geographical networks were developed in the 1960s.Researchers used early networksto share different information. The internetwas later on introduced and used by many experts. Different people started going online to form relationships and groups. Later on, people could study online and do many other things in cyberspace.

Do I Agree?
I agree that online environments are different and offer diverseexperiences thanface-to-face environments.Online environments offer easy and quick communications.People who are far from their family members and friends are able to communicate online. However, online interactions do not offer the same feeling as the in person’sface-to-face meetings. People tend to be happy after seeing each other and talking head-oncompared to online interactions.Additionally, face-to-face interactions make people less lonely and are associated with higher quality of life. Onlineenvironmentshelp people to keep in touch but cannot improve a person’s mood as compared to the face-to-face interactions. The online environment is more efficient in problem-solving compared to face-to-face meetings. However, online environments can easily lead to misunderstandings, in comparison to face-to-face interactions. For example, if there is an issue within a team, people need to meet each other face to face to solve the issue. Face-to-face meetings helps in active listening as people are able to read each other’s nonverbal cues to understand the meaning of the message. Finally, even though online communications help people to feel moresociallyconnected, face-to-face environments bring the sense of closeness among people.

Personal Reflection
My personality differs in online environments compared to face-to-face interactions. In online interactions, I tend to be more bold and courageous in comparison to face-to-face interactions. For example, in an online interaction, I am able to confront someone and talk about what I feel courageously without holding back. However, the same is very different in a face-to-face interaction, considering that I am unable to confront someone directly and instead, I keep quiet and lay low.I am an introvert and I have less human interactions. My circle of friends revolves around few people when it comes to face-to-face meetings. However, I find myself talking to a large number of people exchanging and sharing ideas.
