That Day

A year ago, my friends and I went to an island for the weekend. We could go kayaking, kneeboarding, and ‘ what was most important ‘ surfing. We actually went to surf but a lot of interesting staff happened during the trip.

It was cool and calm when we arrived. We had an angelic welcoming and went straight to our rooms to change, and we went surfing right away. After we surfed enough, my cousin offered to rent jet skis to race with him but my friends insisted on going to a restaurant. I hate it when everyone is trying to make me do what they want, so I decided to go with my cousin and all of us agreed to meet at dinner. My friends went for a lunch, and my cousin and I went jet skiing. Afterwards we all went bowling and for a movie, and later we all had a dinner.

The next day we went to have our last surf as we all planned to leave that day. But my best friend, my cousin and I decided to stay for one more day. Later in the afternoon my best friend Hamad asked, ‘What’s that behind you? Is it a mountain?’ He saw a storm coming as the clouds looked more like a huge mountain that was moving towards us. In a few minutes the stuff informed everyone that the boat that went back to the capital were fully booked, and those at 9 p.m. were cancelled due to the weather. As we went to sleep, a mild rain started and a calm wind was blowing. We were woken up by the roar of thunder and wailing of the strong wind.

We decided to go to see what was happening but as we just opened the door, the room was filled with water and the door shut because of the wind. My cousin Ahmad wanted us to go out but Hamad refused as we all could get sick. It was not a problem for me, besides it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that could not be missed. The weather was amazing! We ran outside, and at the beginning it was terrifying as we could hardly walk because of the strong wind coming from different directions. It felt like apocalypses as there was no people around. While I was walking by the seashore, thunder struck in few meters from me which made me freeze for a second. Thunder was like death telling me: ‘Your time has come!’. Ahmad and Hamad yelled at me: ‘Are you crazy?! Get back!’. We stayed away from the seashore, and by 4 a.m. we returned to our rooms for a shower and change, as we were leaving the island.

I enjoyed that day as it was full of action. I’m not sure if I could do such a risky thing again but it was an adventure. Nevertheless, it was a great adventure that was so better than simply watching storm on TV.
