With the emergence and spread of cloud computing technology, the number of cloud computing service providers has also been on the rise. Three cloud service providers to be discussed are Oracle and Google, which are commercial cloud service providers, as well as iCloud which is a personal cloud service provider. Established in 2011, Apple’s iCloud allows its users to store and retrieve personal data such as music and photos. The service comes in an inbuilt server that is available on Apple devices and functions automatically. Oracle, on the other hand, provides integrated cloud services on their platform mainly for businesses as a way of modernizing businesses. Google Cloud, like Oracle offers cloud services for commercial purposes. Some of their cloud computing services include networking, storage, computing, and data warehousing among many others. The scope of services provided by each provider largely depends on their operational use.

Apple’s iCloud feature has been improved over the years to enhance quality. Given that the service is for personal use, much of the development has been focused on enhancing ease of use, improving security, and allowing for organization. The photo library, a safe and secure back-up option, and accessibility from all devices are some of the personal services that have put Apple’s iCloud high on the list among personal cloud services. One critical feature of cloud computing is security, especially for the commercial service providers. Google boasts of well-secured infrastructure coupled with powerful data and analytics (Google n.d.). Given their dominance in the industry, Google has done extremely well in providing modern, high-performance, and cost-effective cloud computing services. For commercial use, Oracle has been able to position itself as one of the best cloud computing providers. This can be attributed to the integrated cloud platform and applications that are innovative, modern, and secure.

Oracle’s cloud infrastructure uses object storage as a means of storing data. With this form of storage, all data regardless of content type are stored as objects, thus allowing the user to store or retrieve the data either within the platform or from the Internet (Oracle, n.d.). Additionally, buckets serve as a grouping mechanism by storing the objects in a logical manner and also allow for personal bucket namespace. Similarly, Google Cloud Storage uses object storage which is grouped into buckets. However, it offers four storage classes, which are Regional, Multi-regional, Near-line, and Coldline. Class differentiation in this case is based on availability, cost, and geography. Apple, on the other hand, is on record admitting that some of their data is stored in third-party commercial cloud storage systems. Google and Amazon are some of the companies that have helped to store Apple’s iCloud data.

To further enhance security of data stored on their platform, Oracle uses access management and infrastructure identity as ways of tightening security. Additionally, they offer an extra layer of security by allowing users to encrypt objects before having them in object storage. This gives the user total control over their data and encryption keys as well. Google iCloud handles data security in a very detailed way. At the center of its security measure is a multi-layered security approach that relies on several technologies as a way of ensuring security. Other security measures include the use of phishing-resistant security keys before providing access to sensitive data and automatic encryption of data stored on its infrastructure. As a personal cloud service provider, Apple handles data security by providing two-factor authentication (Apple n.d.). This extra layer of security ensures that only the authorized user is able to gain access to the data stored.

All the three aforementioned service providers face almost similar data issues. Top on the rank of these issues is privacy breach. Privacy breach can be either accidental or intentional, but the effect is almost certainly detrimental. To tackle the issue of privacy breach, all the three service providers use anti-malware softwares that prevent potential attacks on data privacy. Another data issue facing the three providers is system vulnerabilities. System vulnerabilities are especially common among service providers using third-party platforms. These vulnerabilities mean that data can easily fall into the hands of the wrong person. To tackle this issue, frequent upgrade and review of protocols is conducted. However, having a committed data protection service can significantly help avoid vulnerability.

Network troubleshooting tools form a necessary part of any network administrator. However, for best results it is important for these tools to be modern. One such a tool is the route utility. With the route utility, an individual is able to see the status of the routing table at any moment. This is however, impossible if the host has just one IP address and getaway. The protocol analyzer is also a modern network troubleshooting tool. The tool allows the user to see data flow issues at a packet level. These tools can be used to address cloud computing issues such as latency issues and communication problems. In conclusion, all the three mentioned service providers are of great quality and are among the best in their respective categories. If looking for a personal service provider, I would recommend Apple’s and its iCloud service because of its ease of use. On the other hand, for a commercial service provider, I would recommend Oracle because of its security features.
